Responsibilities of these Deputy Sheriffs include direct supervision of all male inmates within Sussex County Jail; supervision of kitchen staff in the preparation and serving of meals; transportation of inmates for court appearances and medical appointments; courthouse security and security of the jail; assisting Communications Deputies with supervision of female inmates; and upkeep of the physical plant. Off-duty Jail Deputies supervise inmate community service work details as well as working with the Virginia Department of Transportation's two local offices in Sussex County.
