Incarceration and safety of Inmates
|
Adult inmates awaiting trial and those already sentenced by a court are housed in Sussex County Jail. Additionally, a person found to be a fugitive from another State or jurisdiction is kept until arrangements are made for transfer to that other jurisdiction. Inmates come into the jail by order of either a Judge or Magistrate, and are kept until released by a Judge or Magistrate, transferred to the Department of Corrections, or sent to an alternative sentencing option.
The safety and security of inmates, and of the public from inmates is the primary objective of Sussex County Jail. Rules of conduct and disciplinary measures have been established to enforce order and safety of the facility for inmates and staff.
