Civil Process and the assignment of service of process is supervised by

Lieutenant James Meredith

Civil Process
General District Court

Civil Process includes all legal actions which are not criminal in nature.  The Code of Virginia requires that notice be given to all parties involved in a civil court case.  This is for the protection of the individual's rights.  Deputy Sheriffs serve notice by contacting the persons and giving a written copy of the notice or summons to them.  All Deputy Sheriffs assigned to patrol serve Civil Process, in addition to criminal law enforcement duties.
